“It’s All About Jesus!”
Jesus on Prayer

“Surrendering Your ‘What,’ ‘How,’ and ‘When’”
If “your Kingdom come” is the most difficult prayer to pray, then “your will be done” has to be the second most difficult. Maybe that’s why Jesus included them together. This prayer becomes an important part of our spiritual walk with God when we finally come to this understanding: God is smarter than us.
Think about it. How often do we fall on our knees and tell God what He needs to do? Regularly. But God is smarter about the “what” than we are. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve prayed prayers telling God what He needed to do. Then when He doesn’t do it, I get mad or hurt or begin to question whether He hears my prayer. Later, when God gives me a different “what,” I discover it’s better than the “what” I had in mind!
Another thing I’ve discovered God is smarter at, is the “how.” We not only want to tell God what to do, we try to tell Him how to do it! It’s almost as if we think that God can’t come up with a plan on His own. So we put our “what” out there and then explain to God in detail how He needs to do it. As if the God who created Everything from Nothing can’t figure out how to get stuff done.
Then there’s the “when.” Isn’t this hysterical? First, we tell God Almighty what He has to do. Then we tell Him how He has to do it. And if that’s not enough of a Divine Insult, we put Him on the clock and tell Him when He has to get it done! We have to leave God shaking His Holy Head sometimes.
Today, let’s concede that God is smarter than us. Let’s surrender our “what,” surrender our “how,” and surrender our “when.” God knows what we need, how it needs to happen, and when the proper time is for it to come to pass. So go ahead and lay your needs and desires before Him today. Pour out your heart, and bring all your cares to Him. Just make sure as you put it in His Hands that you remember how wise and powerful your God really is. Surrender it all to His control, and make your final words before Him the smartest words YOU can say: “Father, your will be done!” That’s God’s Word for you today.
