“It’s All About Jesus!”
Mark 1:29-34 (Jesus at Simon’s house)
So he went to her bedside, took her by the hand, and helped her sit up. Then the fever left her, and she prepared a meal for them. – Mark 1:31 (NLT)
“The Home Healer”
Jesus wants to bring healing to our homes. Just as surely as he took the hand of Simon Peter’s mother-in-law and made her well, He desires to touch our families at their point of need and bring healing to us. And we sorely need it.
Every single week, I talk with couples whose marriages are struggling for survival. They’ve grown apart. They’ve stopped communicating. They’ve said things and done things to each other that have left ugly scars upon their hearts. Many of the problems with marriages aren’t huge things. There is just a big pile of unresolved things. And they’re suffocating under it. Often the couple will admit they still love each other. They just don’t know where to begin. But I do. Begin with Jesus. The One who heals our bodies can heal our hearts. He can help tear down the walls we’ve built. He can help restore the damage we’ve done. I’ve seen marriages that many would say were over, done, and gone, be put back together and become thriving and vibrant again. But work like that just can’t be done by human hands. Our marriages need Jesus.
There are lots of other diseases plaguing our homes. One that is rampant and relentless is the disease of addiction. At the heart of so many of our family issues is an addiction to alcohol, drugs, or pornography. Or the more subtle addictions we sweep under the rug like workaholism, spending, and addiction to our computers, video games, and cell phones. These addictions become cancers that slowly consume our lives and destroy the relationships in our families. Addictions are often the “elephant in the room” that nobody is talking about but everyone knows is there. Many families just don’t know what to do. But I do. Start with Jesus. Cry out to the One who alone has the power to set us free. Just like with our marriages, counseling may be needed for full healing, and recovery groups may be helpful for tools and support, but at the heart of it all you need a Healer. One who is greater than the disease your family is dealing with.
The God who made our homes is the God who can heal our homes. Whatever your need for your marriage, whatever your disease of addiction, whatever your family may be dealing with, start with Jesus. He's the Home Healer. That’s God’s Word for you today.
