Powerful Words from the Prophets
“Each one will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land.” – Isaiah 32:2 (NLT)

“Just What We Need”
I’m preaching a series right now called “Before I Go.” It’s a series that looks at some of the things Jesus said to His disciples before He went to the cross. Since these were some of His last words to them, we know they had to be important words. Words He wanted them to remember.
This past Sunday, I shared some of His words from John 15 and 16 where He talked about the pain and suffering they would have to go through. Up until those final few days, everything had been crowds and miracles, palm branches and praises. But all of that was about to change. Not just for Jesus, but for the disciples, too. So He took time in those last hours to try to prepare them for the persecution and struggles they would face. There was one thing He wanted them to hold onto in the midst of it all, though. They would not have to go through it ALONE. Look at Jesus’ words in John 16:33: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
Our passage today is one of Isaiah’s prophecies about the fact that our Jesus will see us through. He is our “shelter from the wind and a refuge from the storm, like streams of water in the desert and the shadow of a great rock in a parched land.” He didn’t say we’d be exempt from what this world throws our way, but he did say that the Messiah would be there for us and with us. He strengthens us. He comforts us. He heals us. He surrounds us. He lifts us. He weeps with us. He calms our fears with His Presence.
As we closed the service this past Sunday, I asked our worship pastor to lead us in a beautiful song that reminds us to lean into God during our difficult times, because He is just what we need. I leave you today with some of the words from this song called “Still.” “Hide me now under your wings. Cover me within your Mighty Hand. When the oceans rise, and thunders roar, I will soar with you above the storm. Father, you are King over the flood. I will be still and know that you are God.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
