Powerful Words from the Prophets
“Preserve the teaching of God; entrust his instructions to those who follow me. I will wait for the LORD, who has turned away from the descendants of Jacob. I will put my hope in him.” – Isaiah 8:16-17 (NLT)
“Keep Your Eyes on the Lord!”

“Keep Your Eyes on the Lord!”
One of the lessons you have to learn early in your journey of faith is to keep your eyes on the Lord and not people. If you focus on people and what kind of Christians they are, you will most likely be disappointed. Everyone sins at some point. Everyone fails. Everyone has bad days when they don’t act like the God that they claim to serve. Some people outright leave the faith and choose another path. When these things happen, they can impact us and our own journey of faith if we let them.
Some people use the failures of others to justify their own flaws. They feel like they don’t need to change because they are “just as good as that hypocrite over there.” Which is true. But they are also just as bad. And both need to get right with God. Other people let the failures of others cause them to question the validity of their faith in God. If God is real, how can people who say they believe in Him act like this? Well, because just as our Holy God is real, so is the fallen nature of people. We’ve proven that truth ever since we were created. We let other people’s failures and sins cause us to become disillusioned, discouraged, critical, sarcastic, and negative. All because we’re focusing on the wrong thing.
That’s why God reminds the people through Isaiah to “preserve the teaching of God.” Don’t follow those who are turning away from God, and don’t let it hinder your walk with Him either. I love his declaration: “I will wait for the Lord…I will put my hope in Him.” Isaiah reminds the people that even if the whole nation turns away from God, we are to remain true. Their bad example is a statement about THEM, not about GOD.
So stand firm in your faith. When things go wrong, stand strong. When it seems like you're losing and not winning, stand strong. And when people act like fallen human beings, don’t let it discourage you or interfere with your walk of faith. Stop focusing on the circumstances around you and the people around you. Keep your eyes on the Lord. That’s God’s Word for you today.
