Powerful Words from the Prophets
What sorrow awaits those who try to hide their plans from the LORD, who do their evil deeds in the dark! “The LORD can’t see us,” they say. “He doesn’t know what’s going on!” – Isaiah 29:15 (NLT)
“God Is Always Watching”

“God Is Always Watching”
Who are you when nobody is looking? That’s a great character question to sit with once in a while. Because, if we’re honest, we’re not always the same person. “No one will ever know” has been the justification for many along the way to do something or act in a way that they know isn’t appropriate. Unfortunately, a lot of people have made the discovery that someone WAS watching…and caught it all on video!
I saw a clip today of a person who was a caregiver for an elderly person. They dutifully got the person’s medications ready for them and helped them take them. They also helped themselves to the cash that the person had on their dresser. Maybe they thought that because the person was old, they wouldn’t remember that they put money there. Maybe they thought that the old guy wouldn’t need it. Maybe they thought that the old man had a lot of money and could afford to give a little away. Or maybe they thought that they worked hard and deserved to make more money than they were making. Regardless of the reason, they at least convinced themselves that no one would know. But what they didn’t realize was that the children of this man had installed a camera in his bedroom to be able to keep an eye on him. Not only was he SEEN; he was RECORDED. And his “no one will ever know” moment cost him his job.
Isaiah reminds us that someone ALWAYS sees. Sometimes it’s the bystander that we’re not aware of. Sometimes it’s the camera that we don’t know is there. But even if there are no people and no cameras around, God is there. And God always sees. He sees our actions. He sees our behavior. He sees our deeds, our gestures, even our facial expressions. In fact, God sees all the way into our hearts.
So if the Enemy tempts you today to cut a corner, cheat a little, or do something or act in a way that you know is not who you ought to be, don’t. Who you are when no one is looking is WHO YOU ARE. Character doesn’t need an audience to show itself. In fact, it is what we do when ONLY God is watching that our true character shines brightest. Let’s make sure to give Him a character He can be proud of. Because He’s always watching. That’s God’s Word for you today.
