Powerful Words from the Prophets
“For the LORD is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for his help.” – Isaiah 30:18 (NLT)
“Our God Is Faithful”

“Our God Is Faithful”
I love these words of wisdom from Isaiah today. There are two profound truths that are good for us to remember. The first is that God is FAITHFUL. The other day, as I walked and prayed, I spent some time just reflecting on all the ways that God has been faithful to me. It was overwhelming. Faithfulness to me when I was a child in grounding me in the faith, protecting me from life-threatening situations, and seeing me through trauma and pain.
I thanked Him for how faithful He was during my very volatile teenage years. Faithful as I wrestled with a sense of identity, my insecurities, and my up-and-down faith. Faithful to bring the right people along my path to guide me and speak into my life. As I walked through my life that morning, my awareness of God’s faithfulness to me made me weep in humility and the feeling of being truly loved. God is ever so much more faithful to us than we are to Him. Sometimes we forget that.
The second truth that jumped out at me today is in that second sentence. “Blessed are those who wait for his help.” God is faithful. He IS going to show up. But sometimes we’re too anxious, in too much of a hurry, or just too much of a control freak to wait on Him. So we run ahead of Him. Sometimes that hurriedness leads to disaster. At other times, it leads us to receive less than God’s best. God isn’t on OUR timetable. We are on His. When we wait on Him, we affirm that He is in charge, not us. When we wait on Him, we acknowledge that we want what HE wants, not what we want. When we wait on Him, we are putting our faith in Him and letting Him know we trust His plans, His ways, and His timing.
Put your trust in the faithfulness of God today. Take a few minutes to reflect on just how faithful He has been to you. Then, as you face the week ahead, pray this prayer: “Lord, help me not to get ahead of you. Help me to slow down, to listen, and to wait for you. Help me not to miss the blessing that you are preparing. Thank you for your amazing faithfulness to me. In your name I pray, amen.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
