Last Sunday’s message was such a powerful one. Since I was speaking on the topic of “Living the Victorious Life,” I asked a woman to share her testimony with the church. It was SO GOOD. She was making the point for me about the need to live “in community.” God told us from the beginning that it is “not good for man to be alone.” But somehow many of us think we are the exception. Then we wonder why we struggle with loneliness and depression and often find ourselves struggling to live the victorious life God wants us to have.
Her testimony was vulnerable and moving. She shared about the pain that set her up for her struggle with addiction. She shared about the losses and the self-destruction. She also shared about the healing, the forgiveness, and the new life that God gave her. She capped it all off with the part people weren’t expecting. She told how she discovered that to not just GET sober, but to STAY sober, she needed the PEOPLE of God just as much as the POWER of God. She needed a safe place, with safe people, where she could continue to journey with openness, honesty, and people who would lift, encourage, and pray for her. It was an amazing testimony about why God calls us to live in community.
Notice in our passage today that God calls Ezekiel to do the same thing. After letting Ezekiel see and experience how He could breathe new life into dead bones, God tells Ezekiel to share that with the People of God. They’re struggling. They’re hopeless. They are a heap of dry bones who need life breathed into them. So God sends someone who has seen what God can do to tell them that God can do that for them as well. Ezekiel became God’s witness to His Grace and Power.
That’s YOU. If God has transformed you, you have a story to tell. If God has brought you back from death to life, there are dead souls that need to hear. If God has saved you, delivered you, or brought hope into your dark world, I promise you that there are LEGIONS of people who need to know what you’ve found. Be open. Be listening. Be looking wherever you go. You never know when God might call you to share the life-giving power that you have discovered. God needs everyday prophets who can tell a few others how their dry bones can live! That’s God’s Word for you today.
