“It’s All About Jesus!”
Matthew 13:24-30 (The Wheat & The Weeds)
“‘Should we pull out the weeds?’ they asked. “‘No,’ he replied, ‘you’ll uproot the wheat if you do. Let both grow together until the harvest. Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.’” – Matthew 13:28-30 (NLT)
“A Day of Reckoning”
I want to say one last word about this parable. Something that I hope will give you peace and rest in the work you do for the Lord. There will be a day of reckoning. Here’s how Jesus said it. “Then I will tell the harvesters to sort out the weeds, tie them into bundles, and burn them, and to put the wheat in the barn.” That means that one day the weeds will get their due, and the good work for God will be fully honored. That’s something we sometimes forget.
There are people who do evil and seem to never be held accountable. There are people who seem to go through life hurting other people, doing vile things, and scoffing at the name of God without any retribution or punishment. But one day, there will be. One day evil people will pay for the evil they’ve done. One day those who scoff at God will be held accountable for their mockery. I’m not sure if it’s literally being “tied up into a bundle and burned,” but my guess is the consequences for living that way are rather severe. Hell is no joke, though some want to believe it is. What you have to get comfortable with is that the “one day” of judgment may not be TODAY.
That Day of Reckoning is also a day of rewards. It is a day where you will get to see the harvest your life has brought. It is a day when you receive the accolades and the words of appreciation worthy of the effort and the sacrifice you gave. One day, you will be vindicated, celebrated, and rewarded. Sadly, that Day of Reckoning may not be today either. So you’ll need to do your work with a humble faith and a quiet confidence that God will make all things right in the end. You’ll need to faithfully keep working, keep serving, and keep believing—even when it seems like the “weeds” are winning. Put your faith in the fact that the Day of Reckoning will make it all worthwhile. Wheat and weeds alike will get what’s coming to them. It just may not be here as fast as you like. That’s God’s Word for you today.
