Walking Through the Psalms
“Before the mountains were born, before you gave birth to the earth and the world, from beginning to end, you are God.” – Psalm 90:2 (NLT)

“God From Beginning to End”
Sometime ago, at a Celebrate Recovery event, I shared about my past. Sometimes it’s not easy looking back. Many of us have hurts and experiences that we’d just as soon forget. But the scar tissue of our past has a unique way of affecting our today as well as our future. Our past wounds can be like shackles that we never quite shake free from. They affect how we view ourselves. They affect our relationships with others. They affect how we think about God and what He can do through our lives.
But the psalmist reminds us that God was God “from the beginning.” That means He was there in our past. That also means He can walk with us back to those places where we need healing, understanding, or closure. God can help us to do more than replay the past. He can help us REDEEM it. By His grace and power, He can help remove the shackles, heal the scar tissue, and set us free. God can help us not just find wholeness, but He can help us use our past as a platform to help others find freedom as well. This is what Celebrate Recovery and programs like that are all about.
But notice that God is also God “to the end.” Yep, While He’s holding our past in One Hand, He’s holding our future in the other! Worried about what’s coming up? Concerned about what tomorrow holds? Are you fretting about what’s down the road, around the next turn, or coming down the pike? Rest in this: God’s already BEEN where you’re going! He sees what’s coming. He knows what’s ahead. He’s fully prepared for whatever life is going to throw at you. Stop lying awake at night, fretting over a future that you have no control over. Instead, give your future to The One who is the God “who will be.”
This God, who was there in your past and walks with you today, has already run ahead of you into tomorrow. He will be there to meet you. He will be there to help you. When Jesus said, “Let today’s own troubles be sufficient for today,” He wasn’t doing so flippantly or lightly. He said it with the full knowledge that we don’t change tomorrow by worrying about it. We only add to our stress today. And today has PLENTY of stress all on its own!
So today, if you’re still struggling with some past pain, isn’t it time you let God into those tender places? He was there. He knows about it already. He’s just waiting for you to become brave enough to let Him in. And if you’re all uptight about tomorrow, next week, next month or next year, just stop. He is the Lord “who WAS, who IS, and who WILL BE.” He’s yesterday’s Healer, today’s Helper, and tomorrow’s Hope. Whatever your need, past, present, or future, God has you covered. He is God “from beginning to end.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
