Walking Through the Psalms
“And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.” – Psalm 39:7 (NLT)
“Our Hope Is in Him!”
“And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.” – Psalm 39:7 (NLT)
“Our Hope Is in Him!”
Our verse today is both sobering and wonderfully reassuring. It’s sobering because the psalmist has just spent several verses talking about the fleeting nature of life. His reflections are the realities that we all come to sooner or later. And that is that nothing lasts. Health doesn’t. Wealth doesn’t. Success doesn’t. Even people you count on don’t. In a world of shifting shadows, isn’t there anything you can count on, anything that you can put your hope in? Yes, there is!
God is our only hope. Life changes, God doesn’t. People come and go. God stays. Health and wealth are only temporary. God is eternal. You can enjoy the things of this world, but you can’t cling to them. You can carve out a reasonably steady life, but eventually, something will shake it all up. You can develop wonderfully loving relationships with others, but in the end, people will still be people. They will hurt you, disappoint you, and eventually, by death or choice, they will leave you. All of these things are good things that we are meant to enjoy and embrace. But our HOPE has to be built on something more.
That’s why the psalmist comes back to this statement. “And so, Lord, where do I put my hope? My only hope is in you.” God is our Constant. God is our Security. God is the Foundation upon which we build our lives so that when all else comes crashing down, we can still stand on Him. In times of struggle, He is our Strength. In times of sickness, He is our Healer. When the bank account is low and times are lean, He is our Provider. When all others abandon us, He is the Friend who sticks closer than a brother. And when we finally cross the threshold of death, He is our Resurrection!
Where is your hope today? What are you counting on to get you through? Who are you putting your faith in to always be there with and for you? This world offers a lot of nice support, but there is only One true security. God. Our hope is in HIM! That’s God’s Word for you today.
