Walking Through the Psalms
“O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.” – Psalm 40:5 (NLT)
“Jogging Our Memory”
“O LORD my God, you have performed many wonders for us. Your plans for us are too numerous to list. You have no equal. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds, I would never come to the end of them.” – Psalm 40:5 (NLT)
“Jogging Our Memory”
Do you believe in miracles? The psalmist did. In fact, throughout the Psalms, you will read the various writers referring to the many things that God did in Israel’s past. How He freed them from Egypt. How He parted the Red Sea. How He provided manna and quail in the wilderness. How He brought water out of a rock. How He led them across the Jordan River. How He overcame their enemies. Over and over again, the psalmists highlight how God “performed many wonders.”
Do you know WHY they took time to remember the past? It gave them a foundation to believe for TODAY. Remembering what God has done strengthens our faith to believe what God can do. It reminds us that the God of Yesterday is the God of Today and Tomorrow as well.
I thought about this as I walked and prayed today. I thanked God for all the amazing things I’ve seen Him do through the years. For the time He healed me as a young boy. For the people I’ve met who were given only months to live and yet, by God’s grace, lived healthily for decades. I thought about some of the times when the churches I’ve served had huge needs for money, facilities, staffing, and healing. And how God provided all of those things in unbelievable ways. I thought about marriages that I didn’t think had a chance of surviving, and yet, God brought brokenness and restoration. I thought about people who were so far from God that no one thought they’d ever come back. But they did. Our God is a BIG God. Remembering what He’s done swells my soul with faith to believe what He can do.
Do YOU need a miracle? Take a moment to read our verse for today again. Maybe you need to get your Bible out and read a few of the stories of old when God did what man couldn’t believe He could do. Maybe you need to sit for a while and think about the times when YOU witnessed God’s power, God’s healing, God’s provision, or God’s grace. Hopelessness has nothing to do with what you’re facing today or are fearful about tomorrow. Hopelessness has to do with a bad memory. When you remember the miracles of the past, you’ll believe God for miracles in the future. Jog your memory and you’ll wake up your faith! That’s God’s Word for you today.
