Walking Through the Psalms
“He will send help from heaven to rescue me…My God will send forth his unfailing love and faithfulness.” – Psalm 57:3 (NLT)

“When God Shows Off”
I attended college in Houston, Texas. Since I lived in Springfield, Ohio, it was a long trek back and forth to go home. Of course, this is decades before GPS or cellphones. One time, when I was driving back to school after a Christmas break, my old car was loaded to the gills. There were six of us in the car, and the trunk was packed full. Making our way through Kentucky, we had a flat. It was bitterly cold, and we had to completely unpack the trunk to get to the spare.
Once the tire was changed, we reloaded the trunk, got back in the car, thawed out our fingers, and started out again. Crisis solved. Or so we thought. It was getting late as we hit the outskirts of Houston. Suddenly, there was a loud pop. Another flat! We pulled to the side of the road, just short of an exit. I couldn’t believe it. My first thought was, “Really, God? We’re Bible college students studying for the ministry. You’re supposed to be NICE to guys like us!”
But then I realized we were right across the highway from an Exxon station. Exxon was the ONLY credit card I had in my wallet! We hustled over to the gas station. It was 10 minutes until closing time. The attendant went out to the garage to see if he had a tire he could sell us. He only had one. It was a used tire, but it was exactly the size my car took! Had we broken down ten miles earlier, or showed up ten minutes later, or if the tire he had was of a different size, we would have been stuck big time. But God showed up in an unbelievable way and saved our bacon. My pouting and panicking went to praising in a hurry!
Do you need help? Are you having one of those “Really, God?” moments like I did? Let me assure you of something. God sees you. He had His eye on David in that cave, on me out there on I-10, and He knows exactly where you are, too. Call out to Him today. Let Him know that you’re aware of how in over your head you are. Tell Him how desperately you need Him. Do it, not because He’s unaware of what’s going on, but because it’ll remind you that it’s HIM as He shows up! My guess is He is already sending you the help you need to rescue you. His Unfailing Love and Faithfulness just can’t be stopped. But don’t be surprised if He shows up at the LAST second at the LAST exit to bail you out. Sometimes He likes to do more than show up. Sometimes He likes to show off! That’s God’s Word for you today.
