Walking Through the Psalms
“My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!” – Psalm 57:7 (NLT)
“Sing with Confidence!”

“Sing with Confidence!”
When I read this verse, I thought of one of my favorite stories from the book of Acts. In Acts 16, you find the Apostle Paul and his friend Silas enjoying some late-night worship. They’re praising God and singing some of their favorite hymns. What’s funny about the story isn’t just the fact that it was midnight as they were doing this. It was the fact that they were in prison! How would YOUR mood be if you had been incarcerated for doing what God had called you to do? I would probably be sitting in a fetal position in a corner, softly crying, “Why ME?!”
But not these guys. Paul and Silas were singing their hearts out while the other prisoners listened in. How could they be so content amid such terrible circumstances? Confidence. Even though they were in jail, they knew they were in the Hands of God. Even though they were in chains, they believed that God had the key. Even though their future looked bleak, they believed God held their destiny. Would YOU have confidence like that?
Oh, my friend, let this sink deep into your hearts. Confidence has nothing to do with your circumstances. David was trapped in a cave, and Paul and Silas were in prison. Confidence is not about where you are or what you are going through. Confidence comes from knowing WHOSE you are! Confidence is the knowledge that there is nothing people can do to me that God cannot outdo. Put me in a cave, and I’ll end up on a throne. Put me in jail, and God will cause an earthquake to tear down the walls to free me. Put me in a grave, and my God will resurrect me to a glorious Eternity. Confidence is knowing God is behind me, before me, and all around me. Confidence is believing God loves me, leads me, and will never leave me. Confidence is trusting that God HAS me. He always has, and He always will.
Read our verse today again out loud. “My heart is confident in you, O God; my heart is confident. No wonder I can sing your praises!” Now read it with passion and conviction! Stop thinking about where you are or what’s going on, and start dwelling on WHO IS WITH YOU! Think about all God has done. Think about all He has promised. Think about what a great story you’ll have to share when God sets you free. Now, find your song and SING! That’s God’s Word for you today.
