“Walking Through the Psalms”

“A Grandparent’s Love”
We love our grandkids. A LOT. Though they know that on some level, they really don’t understand how much. At their young age, they don’t understand that we’ve spent hundreds of dollars just to spend a few days with them when they lived out of state. They have no concept how much money we’ve spent on them for food, movies, vacations, clothes, toys, and whatever else their hearts desire.
They also have no idea that in addition to the hugs, kisses, and endless gifts we give them that there is a much deeper part to our love. They can’t conceive the lengths we would go to provide for them, care for them, or protect them. They could probably tell you some of the things we’ve done for them in the past, but they aren’t aware of how we have already invested in their future. Oh, they can tell that we’re really happy to see them and that we love to shower our affection upon them. They could show you things we’ve bought for them and tell you about fun places we’ve taken them. But their minds are still not mature enough to grasp the magnitude of our love for them. Our love is higher than they can see and bigger than they can imagine.
David says that’s how God’s love is, too. Do you REALLY know how much God loves you? I’ll bet not. Oh, you’ve felt the hug of His Comforting Presence. You’ve probably noticed the things that He’s done, the prayers that He’s answered, and some of the gifts of life that He’s given you. You might even be able to point to one or two really special places He’s taken you or things that He’s seen you through. But His love is so much deeper than that. His commitment to you is so much greater than that. Your mind has not yet even begun to touch all that He’s done, all that He will do, and all that He WOULD do if He needed to for you. He’s provided for you, protected you, and worked on your behalf in ways you’ll never know. He is already investing in your future and preparing the way before you in ways you will never comprehend. He would do ANYTHING for you. In fact, on the cross He did EVERYTHING for you! And what does He want in return? Just your simple, childlike love.
So, if you’re having trouble imagining the magnitude of God’s Love for you today, think about me and my grandkids. Or, if you have them, think about YOUR grandkids! My guess is that your love for them is far greater than anything they can understand. And God’s love for YOU is that...TIMES INFINITY. That’s a LOT of love. That’s God’s Word for you today.
