Walking Through the Psalms
“Give thanks to the LORD and proclaim his greatness. Let the whole world know what he has done.” – Psalm 105:1 (NLT)
“The World Needs to Hear: God Still Works!”

“The World Needs to Hear: God Still Works!”
Many of you know I’m a basketball junkie. But as I was reading a few articles over the weekend, one jumped out at me. It was an article about the former superstar NBA player Allen Iverson. Iverson has been regarded as one of the best players who has ever played the game. He was a standout at Georgetown University in college and became a legend in the NBA.
But like many who find themselves thrust into fame and fortune at a young age, Iverson got lost in it all. He blew through millions of dollars and eventually developed a lifestyle filled with alcohol and self-destruction. After he finished his NBA career, his wife, whom he had been with since high school, filed for divorce. He went from sitting on top of the world to hitting bottom.
That’s why this weekend’s article caught my attention. It was an interview about the new book he recently released, which talks about how he found his way back. In a social media post about his turnaround, he says, "In December 2024, I gave EVERYTHING over to God. Alcohol, Lust, Depression, Anxiety.. all of it.” Now, six months sober, he’s walking a different path. He has his wife back. He’s healed some broken relationships. He has his LIFE back. Despite all of his accolades and awards, THIS is his greatest hour.
I was so thankful to see Iverson’s story being told. Not simply because he’s famous, but because it’s a story the world needs to hear. People need to hear that fame and fortune will not satisfy, no matter how much you achieve. People need to hear that there is a path that seems exciting and fun and thrilling, but it leads to death and destruction. People need to hear that you can have EVERYTHING and still have NOTHING if you don’t have God at the center of it all. And people need to hear that God STILL breaks chains and sets people free. God STILL forgives, no matter how badly we fail or deeply we sin. God STILL lifts the broken out of the pits and sets their feet on better paths. And God STILL heals broken marriages, restores broken relationships, and seeks and saves those who are lost. Our passage today reminds us to “Let the whole world know what he has done.” Because the story of what God can do is the One Story that this world really needs to hear. God still WORKS!! That’s God’s Word for you today.
