Walking Through the Psalms
“Then he sent someone to Egypt ahead of them—Joseph, who was sold as a slave.” – Psalm 105:17 (NLT)
“God Is Already There”

“God Is Already There”
Wherever you go today, God is already there. Isn’t that a comforting thought? Psalm 105 reminds us that when the famine hit Canaan and the people had to turn to Egypt for food, God already had someone in place to help them. His name was Joseph. He had been sold into slavery by his brothers, lied about by his employer’s wife, and forgotten by his friends who promised to help him. But God worked through all of that to get him to just the right place and at just the right time when Israel would need him. Because God was working “ahead of them.”
The people of God then flourished in Egypt for years. But after Joseph died, a new King came to power who didn’t know Joseph. He became afraid of God’s people. So he enslaved them. But once again, God was working “ahead of them.” He protected, groomed, and then called a young man named Moses, who became a liberator for the people. God’s hand was upon him, and he led the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land. Whenever the people of God got in trouble and thought God had left them somewhere along the way, the exact opposite was true. God was WAITING for them. He was already there preparing the way “ahead of them.”
God is working ahead of you today, too! When you get to work, and the wheels start to come off things, don’t panic. God hasn’t abandoned you. He got to work long before you did. Call out to Him, and He’ll help you. When you get that phone call that catches you by surprise and completely upends your world, just remember one thing. It didn’t upend God’s world. He’s fully prepared for that crisis that has hit you. He sees what you don’t and is more than able to get you through it. When you’re sitting in a doctor’s office and the news is not what you wanted to hear, just take a deep breath. God was in that doctor’s office even before the doctor got there. The God who made you and has watched over you through the years is prepared for this moment in time as well.
So don’t fret. The things that catch you by surprise never catch God by surprise. This morning, when you opened your eyes, God was already waiting for you. And many of the things that you will face today are things God has already taken care of. God loves you so much that He not only keeps His eye on where you ARE; He’s looking down the road to where you’re GOING! He’s the God who is “ahead of you.” That’s God’s Word for you today.
