Walking Through the Psalms

“Turning Rejected Stones into Cornerstones”
This is a beautiful verse depicting the wonderful, redeeming work of God. God can take that life which others discard and build something amazing and incredible out of it. God took Gideon, who was from the “least tribe” and the “least clan,” and made him into a commanding general who led God’s people to victory. God took an old, childless couple named Abraham and Sarah and made a nation out of them. He did that even though they were LONG beyond their childbearing years! God took an abandoned child named Moses and made him a liberator of freedom. He made Apostles out of fishermen and tax collectors. He made evangelists out of prostitutes. God took a murderer named Saul and made him the most prolific writer of the New Testament. And, of course, He took Jesus, who was rejected by His own people, and made Him the Redeemer of the world. God can build great things out of rejected stones. He can do the same with you!
I’ve known people who spent a good bit of their lives addicted to drugs. But then they opened their lives to Jesus, and something amazing happened. God broke the chains of their addiction and gave them a second chance to build a life. You know what? God took that “rejected stone” of their life, their addiction, and made it the cornerstone for their future. He took what the Enemy had meant to destroy them with and used it to empower them to help other people find freedom, too. Their past misery is now their present ministry!
I’ve seen God take couples that were on the verge of divorce and do a wonderful, healing work in their marriage. But rather than just throw that painful part of their relationship away, never to be remembered, it became the cornerstone for them to build the home they always wanted. Instead of pretending they never had problems, they proudly display their painful past to teach other couples about God’s redeeming love and how to live, love, and grow together. Their “failure” became the platform from which they teach. They now show couples how to build it right.
Maybe there are some who are reading this today who feel like a “rejected stone.” Maybe you feel as if you’ve been kicked to the curb, cast aside, overlooked, or discarded. Or maybe there’s a failed part of your life still hanging over you like a dark cloud. Don’t believe for a minute that God’s done with you. Reach out to Him today and ask Him to do something new, fresh, and vibrant in your life. Ask Him to take your “rejected stone” and use it as a “cornerstone.” Let God begin building something new out of YOU! That’s God’s Word for you today.
