Powerful Words from the Prophets

“God Still Loves You”

Years ago, I read a book called “The Cross and the Switchblade.” It was the story of a gang member in New York City named Nicky Cruz who was led to the Lord by an evangelist named David Wilkerson. Nicky, who was neck-deep in gang life, was not an easy convert. There were lots of conversations with Wilkerson before God finally broke through. I remember one of the conversations where David Wilkerson was telling Nicky that God loved him and that he loved him. It was so convicting to Nicky that he told the evangelist that if he came near him, he would kill him. Wilkerson’s response was, “Yeah, you could do that. You could cut me up into a thousand pieces and lay them in the street, and every piece will still love you.” What an awesome story of the power of God’s love!
Our passage today is God reminding His People of His everlasting, unfailing love. They are now in exile, suffering for their sins. Many probably wondered where God was or if He had forsaken them. He reminds them that His love is the One Constant that they can always count on. No. Matter. What.
God still loves you. I can’t help but believe there are some of us who need to hear that today. Sometimes, when we’ve blown it, we probably wonder if God still loves us. We’re reminded today that He does. Sometimes God doesn’t answer prayer the way we want Him to, and, in our disappointment, we might doubt His love. But it’s still there. Sometimes life hits us hard. Setbacks. Health issues. Losses. Trouble with people. Problems at work. All of these things can feel as if God is out to get us. But He’s not. It’s all a part of living on this fallen, chaotic planet called Earth. No matter what’s going on, God still loves us.
I’m reminded of Paul’s immortal words in Romans 8. “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” So take heart, my friend. No matter where you are or what you’re going through. God still loves you. That’s God’s Word for you today.
