Walking Through the Psalms
“I am counting on the LORD; yes, I am counting on him. I have put my hope in his word.” – Psalm 130:5 (NLT)

“You Can Count on Him”
Have you ever heard someone say, “Doesn’t ANYONE do what they say they’ll do?” I bet you have. You may have even said it yourself a time or two. What a sad, but true, commentary on people. Workers who promise they’ll take care of a project by a certain date that you’re paying them to do. But they don’t. It drags on and on and on, often with added costs. Companies that promise they’ll stand behind their product if it doesn’t perform as advertised. Then they don’t. It becomes a long haggle to try to get it fixed, replaced, or your money back.
Sometimes it’s friends or family who commit to being there for you when you need them. Then you need them. And they are nowhere to be found. You feel hurt, abandoned, and alone. People who do what they say and live up to what they promise are few and far between. They are like treasures to hold dear. They are companies that you want to be loyal to. They are precious friends that you want to always keep. It’s one more reason to be so grateful for God.
The psalmist reminds us that we can count on God. What God says He will do, He will do. When God makes a promise, He keeps that promise. When God says He’ll be there, He will be there. There is wonderful security in that. Life is unpredictable. Jobs, health, and relationships can change quickly, leaving us feeling shaky and unsteady. We need something to hold onto. We need a firm place to stand. We need to know that there are arms to catch us when we get knocked off our feet. That’s where God comes in. He has promised that He will “never leave us or forsake us.” He is a “very present help in our time of need.” We can trust those promises. We can put our hope in His Word.
So if you’ve been let down by someone who didn’t live up to what they said, I’m so sorry. Or if you’re going through a time when you’ve had your feet knocked out from under you, my heart goes out to you. But I want to remind you today that you are not alone. There is Someone you can count on. There is Someone who will stand by His commitment to you. There is Someone who will be there for you. Every. Single. Time. If God says it, He will do it. Put your hope in His Word. You can count on Him. That’s God’s Word for you today.
